An underbite occurs when your lower teeth sit in front of your upper teeth, usually caused by a protruding chin.

Why do I have an underbite?

The most common cause for an underbite is an inherited hereditary condition whereby the lower jaw grows too large or is in the wrong position.

How do you correct an underbite?

Children and Adolescents

If an underbite is treated early, we have the option to use non-surgical systems, including an upper jaw expander, chin cap, braces, or a reverse-pull facemask to guide your jaw into the correct position as it grows.

Adults

Once the jaw has stopped growing there is less likelihood that alignment systems will work. If your underbite is caused by overcrowding then tooth extractions may work, otherwise you may need a surgical treatment to realign your lower jaw.

What now?

Your teeth are just as unique as the rest of you, so there’s never a one-size-fits-all solution; book a no obligation appointment with us so we can look at your underbite and make a recommendation as to your potential treatment options.

This is particularly important for people with underbites, as the non-surgical treatments sometimes use systems that aren’t as well known as braces or aligners, and in the case of surgery it’s essential to have a full understanding of what’s involved.

Underbite treatments are often the most dramatic and rewarding transformations, so we will explain how it will resolve any speech issues, discomfort, problems eating, and just as importantly how it will give you the smile you deserve.
